The steps were very simple and it took no longer than a few hours to make. Keep in mind that when you coat the ring with gloss, you need to wait at least 24 hours for it to dry properly. After that, you're good to go :)
DIY Moustache ring
What you need:
- Black oven-bake clay (I used the Sculpey brand bought from Spotlight)
- Moustache template
- Small knife
- Rolling pin (I just used a deodorant can)
- Ring base (I bought these in the jewellery section in Spotlight)
- Super glue
- Baking paper
- Clay gloss
- Paint brush
Print and cut out a moustache template
The Sculpey clay comes in a block which is divided into quarters. Tear off a quarter and roll until the clay is the desired thickness.
Using the template, cut the clay into the moustache shape.
The baking instructions on the packaging for the clay says to bake at 130 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes per 1/4 of the block of clay. I tried that but the clay didn't harden and it broke. The second time around, I baked it for 30 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. Remember to leave the clay to cool completely before picking it up. This allows it to harden properly.
Glue the ring base to the moustache.
Coat the moustache with gloss. Apply multiple coats if needed, allowing for 30 minutes drying in between each coat, and then allow 24 hours to dry completely. And there you have it; a simple DIY ring that doesn't cost you much and that looks pretty decent :)
